Jordan Prohibits Specified Smoke-Flavouring Primary Products

Jordan's Food and Drug Administration has prohibited the import and use of eight specified smoke-flavouring primary products, cancelled existing import approvals, and set transition deadlines of 31 December 2026 for general foods and 31 December 2029 for specified cheese, meat and fish products.
Jordan — September 2026
The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has prohibited specified primary products used in the manufacture of smoke flavourings. The measure was issued in a circular dated 4 March 2026 and cites European Union Regulation 2024/2067.
Affected Smoke-Flavouring Primary Products
The prohibition covers the following eight product codes:
- SF-001
- SF-002
- SF-003
- SF-004
- SF-005
- SF-006
- SF-008
- SF-009
SF-007 is not included in the listed prohibition.
Regulatory Measures
The JFDA circular establishes the following measures:
- Products, food preparations and production inputs containing any of the listed primary products must not be imported.
- Existing JFDA import approvals for the affected materials will be cancelled.
- The listed materials must not be used in food manufacturing.
- Businesses must transition within the applicable grace period.
- The requirements apply to imported finished products and locally manufactured food products.
Transition Deadlines
- General food products: 31 December 2026.
- Cheese, meat and fish products: 31 December 2029. This category includes fish roe, molluscs and crustaceans.
Recommended Compliance Actions
Affected food businesses should conduct a structured compliance assessment covering:
- Product formulations, ingredient specifications and supplier declarations.
- Imported and locally manufactured product portfolios.
- Existing JFDA approvals for affected materials.
- Raw materials and compound flavouring preparations.
- Potential reformulation requirements.
- Inventory and stock-transition planning.
Businesses should engage suppliers promptly to confirm whether any ingredients, flavouring systems or compound preparations contain the prohibited primary products.
Compliance Considerations
The two transition deadlines should be managed at SKU level. Early assessment can support business continuity and reduce the risk of supply-chain disruption, particularly where reformulation, sourcing changes or replacement regulatory approvals may be required.
