Jordan Updates Key Food Standards

Amman — August 2026

Jordan has approved a new set of Jordanian standards covering food additives labelling, retail labelling of prepackaged foods, infant nutrition (including shelf life requirements) and a number of selected food commodities. The approved standards were published in Official Gazette No. 6056 and become mandatory from 11 August 2026.

Standards Covered by the Update

The published update addresses the following areas:

• Additives labelling (1) — labelling requirements for food additives.
• Food labelling – retail (2) — labelling of prepackaged foods offered for retail sale.
• Infant cereals & young children foods (3) — cereal-based foods for infants and young children.
• Infant formula & follow-on formula – shelf life (4) — shelf life requirements for infant formula and follow-on formula products.
• Oat flour / oat milling products (6) — oat milling products.
• Ground roasted coffee (7) — ground roasted coffee.
• Chewing gum (14) — chewing gum (base and other ingredients).

Enforcement Date

The updated standards become mandatory from 11 August 2026. From that date, products placed on the Jordanian market within the affected categories are expected to meet the revised requirements.

• Portfolio mapping: Identify every SKU that falls within the affected categories, including additives supplied to manufacturers.
• Artwork and label review: Re-check mandatory particulars, Arabic labelling, additive declarations and nutrition information against the revised retail labelling standard.
• Infant nutrition dossiers: Confirm that shelf life substantiation for infant formula and follow-on formula meets the new requirements, and that infant cereal products align with the updated standard.
• Commodity specifications: Verify that oat milling products, ground roasted coffee and chewing gum specifications match the approved standards.
• Transition planning: Sequence artwork changes, existing stock depletion and new production runs so that compliant product is on shelf ahead of 11 August 2026.
