New Sugar Tax in Morocco!

Starting January 1, 2025, Morocco will implement new internal consumption taxes on products containing sugar. 

These taxes aim to regulate the consumption of high-sugar products and promote healthier alternatives. 

🗝️ Here are the key points:

🍪 Pastries and Biscuits:
-Products with >39g added sugar: 210 DH per 100 kg
-Products with >50g added sugar + chocolate: 260 DH per 100 kg

🍭 Sugar Confectionery:
-Hard confectionery with >61g added sugar: 900 DH per 100 kg
-Soft confectionery with >56g added sugar: 900 DH per 100 kg
-Chewing gum with >62g added sugar: 900 DH per 100 kg

🍫 Chocolate Products:
-Chocolate with >46g added sugar: 450 DH per 100 kg
-Chocolate spreads with >56g added sugar: 600 DH per 100 kg
-Sweetened chocolate powder with >63g added sugar: 750 DH per 100 kg
-Sweetened cocoa powder with >75g added sugar: 750 DH per 100 kg

🧈Dairy Products:
-Fermented milk (yogurt) with >8.8g added sugar: 120 DH per 100 kg
-Dairy desserts with >12g added sugar: 150 DH per 100 kg
-Sweetened condensed milk with >48g added sugar: 120 DH per 100 kg
-Flavored milk with >8.5g added sugar: 120 DH per 100 kg
-Fresh cheese with >8g added sugar: 120 DH per 100 kg
-Milk-based ice cream with >12g added sugar: 150 DH per 100 kg
-Milk-based drinks with >8g added sugar: 120 DH per 100 kg

🫙 Jams and Marmalades:
-Products with >55g added sugar: 150 DH per 100 kg

🧃 Prepared Drinks:
-Drinks with ≥10% fruit juice + >7g added sugar: 37.5 DH per 100 kg

☕ Powdered Coffee Preparations:
-Products with >63g added sugar: 750 DH per 100 kg

🥣 Cereal Products:
-Breakfast cereals and cereal bars with >27g added sugar: 180 DH per 100 kg

🍞 Toasted Bread Products:
-Products with >10g added sugar: 150 DH per 100 kg
-Powdered Soup and Sauce Preparations:
-Products with >15g added sugar: 150 DH per 100 kg

🫗 Syrups:
-Products with >49g added sugar: 450 DH per 100 kg
